Lenten Art Project
2026
During this year's theme of Blessed are the Peacemakers, the students in Mr. von Vulte's Grades 5 and 6 class at St. John XXIII Catholic Elementary School of the Durham Catholic District School Board are raising funds to support the Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa.
We raised $400 in art sales and donations in 2026!
The remainder of the artwork was donated to a seniors residence in Oshawa, so the people there would have something to brighten up their rooms and lives!
Earlier this year, Grade 6 students at St. John XXIII Catholic School created a global art showcase to raise funds in support of The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa. Last week, that creativity turned into action as students proudly presented a $400 donation, marking the culmination of their youth helping youth initiative.
The cheque was presented to Ms. Cindy Mills from The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre during a school assembly. Inspired by the DCDSB spiritual theme Blessed are the Peacemakers, students showed how art, compassion, and service can come together to make a meaningful difference in their community. A huge thank you to Mr. Von Vulte and his class for their hard work and commitment to helping others!
Building Bridges in the Community:
Oshawa's Youth Helping Youth
Our Grades 5 and 6 students have been studying art from Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, South America, Asia, and Africa. They have donated their efforts in order to help struggling youth in Oshawa. All sales are final. There will be no tax receipts issued for any purchase of art. 100% of the proceeds will go to The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa.
Thank you for your purchase and taking the time to support youth in Oshawa.
